Summer Series
begins June 22!
Here are the classes for that first week, June 22 - 26.
For 3 - 5 year olds there is
Flanders Fun... 'practice playing farmer for a day'. Dip
your net in the pond. Track animals through the woods and catch
grasshoppers in the fields. Explore the great outdoors and try
everything Flanders has to offer. (9 AM - Noon or 1 - 4 PM, Trail
House)
For 5 - 10 year olds there is Flanders Adventure... explore
the pond, track and discover mammals in the woods, investigate
insects and have loads of plant-tastic adventures. (9 AM - Noon
or 1 - 4 PM, Sugar House)
Also for 5 - 10 year olds there is Animal Roundup... discover
fascinating facts about cows, horses, chickens, pigs and sheep.
Help with the chores and be the farmer for a day! (9 AM - Noon
or 1 - 4 PM, North Barn)
In addition there are Garden Workshop Series which is a
short lunchtime series designed for children ages 3 - 10. Children
will enjoy their brown bag lunch in the garden with storytelling
and games that connect them to the good earth that provides for
all of us. Garden scavenger hunts and corny jokes are all part
of the fun. (Noon - 1 PM, Garden)
June 26: Community Garden Potlock Dinner. This is the first
of many community garden potlucks! Open to all old and new members
of the Community Garden.
For this dinner it is BYOB.. that is bring your own Beverage and
BEEF! Flanders has a new grill so bring your own Beef and an appetizer,
side or dessert, along with the beverage of your choice. We will
share the appetizers, salads, desserts and beverages and have
some of the men grill all our beef.
For the activity one of our fellow gardeners will teach us some
more about square foot gardening. we will introduce Jen, our master
gardener, with details on the garden makeover and how to contact
her with questions.
Highlight of the evening will be... Vegetable Bingo! The kids
young and old will like this one. Entry into Bingo is one item
of your choice (toy, book, lamp, DVD, etc)... only catch is that
the item must not be purchased. Please recycle an item (gently
used) in your house you aren't using anymore or bring in a gift
you got and never used (regifting accepted here). (6 PM, Studio
& Garden)
June 27: Flanders Art School with Robert Crawford. Nationally
recognized artist, Robert Crawford, will be heading efforts to
begin a new art school at Flanders. Instruction will focus on
fundamentals, techniques and honing skills as an artist. All levels
will be accomodated. Special attention will be paid to acrylics.
Plein-air painting will be a focus with a demonstration to start
