Flanders
Nature Center & Land Trust offers unique summer experiences for children
ages 3 to 10.
All class curricula areage- appropriate, hands-on, and interactive.
A special craft focus is given in programs for younger participants.

Registration
Information:
Classes for 3- to 4-year-olds (two-and-a-half hours) are
$85 for current members of Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust,
and $110 for nonmembers .
Classes for 5- to 10-year-olds (three-hours) are $100 for
current Flanders members, and $125 for nonmembers.
Payment/Cancellation:
Registration is accepted by mail or in person on a first-come,
first-served basis. Complete payment is required for registration.
Once a child is registered, a confirmation letter will be mailed
or e-mailed. No medical forms will be required.
Should you need to cancel your registration in a class,
notice must be given two weeks prior to the start date to receive
a 50 percent refund. Refunds will not be issued without two weeks'
notice, nor will refunds in excess of 50 percent of the original
registration cost be issued.

General Information
- All Nature and Art programs meet at the Trail House or Sugar House.
Both are located on Church Hill Road a short drive from the intersection
of Flanders and Church Hill Roads in Woodbury.
- All Agriculture programs meet at the North Barn. The North Barn is
located on Flanders Road a short distance north of the Flanders Welcome
Center..
- Adult educators will lead all classes, with assistance provided by
teenage volunteers.
- Children should bring a snack and beverage on each day of class. Drink
boxes/bags with straws are not permitted.
- We will go outside every day. Please make sure your child is dressed
appropriately for outdoor explorations. Sneakers with socks, long pants,
sun block, and bug spray are suggested. On rainy days, appropriate clothing
should also be provided.
- Flanders reserves the right to remove a child from the program for
disruptive behavior.

Children must be toilet trained and able to attend without a parent/guardian.
Class size limited to 20 students.
Amazing Art in Nature
Art for little ones! Explore the world of nature as a beginning artist.
No experience is necessary.

Young Artists
All you need is a love of art and excitement about nature. Use the color
wheel to discover Flanders' habitat for animals and plants.

Dinosaurs
Mighty dinosaurs once roamed this earth, even right here in Connecticut.
Come with us on a "dino-mite" adventure as we learn about
dinosaurs from T-Rex to Stegosaurus.

Bug-A-Mania
Bugs are everywhere. Millipedes, spiders, and walking sticks are just
a few of the creeping and crawling friends we'll meet this week. Come
along and get a bug's-eye view of their habitats.

Nature Detectives
Look for clues high and low to see what animals are living all around
us. From the pond to the ground to the trees, we'll try to find them
all.

Splash!
Young explorers will enjoy a week with the fish, frogs, turtles, and
everything else that swims or crawls in our ponds and streams. Wear
old sneakers and plan on getting wet every day.

Go Nuts About Plants!
Learn about trees, plants, and flowers, and why we need them to survive.
We need them all, from ferns and sunflowers to pines and maple trees.

Come explore what Flanders has to offer, from a day at the pond, to
the farm, to catching bugs and even a tractor ride.

Grab your passport and let's travel to Asia in search of a different
animal each day. We are sure to find binturongs, caracals, and pandas,

Habitats and Ecosystems
Learn how plants and animals have adapted to the various environments
in which they live.

Insect Insights
Learn insect anatomy and how bugs are classified as you discover how they
adapt for survival.

Geology Adventure
Make a fossil as you discover dinosaurs and learn how weather, water,
volcanoes, and earthquakes shape our world.

Good with Wood
Hammer like a woodpecker, drill like an ant, and get "busy as a
beaver" making eco-friendly animal homes and feeders for your yard
or garden. Help Flanders furry and feathered friends by studying and
maintaining their habitats. Learn about tree identification while discovering
which building materials work best for your projects.

Pond Life
Visit the various ponds around Flanders and learn who lives there as
you net frogs, tadpoles, fish, and water insects.

Mammal Mania
What makes an animal a mammal? Learn that and interesting facts about
Connecticut's woodland creatures.

Nocturnal Animals
Venture into the world of darkness as you discover who's hiding in the
night. Could it be a bat? A raccoon? Whoooo knows!

Animal Classification
Grouping animals into categories according to their common traits is
a hard job. Learn how scientists do it and how you can, too.

Flanders
Adventurers
Experience all Flanders has to offer from the pond to the farm to the
forest. Catch frogs, visit the farm animals and see who lives in the
woods.

Farm Life Series: Eggs to Legs
Visit the farm, collect eggs, and learn all about chickens, turkeys,
ducks, and geese. What other animals hatch from eggs at Flanders? Hike
and discover.

Farm Life Series: Horse Power
Children will work hands-on with our resident mini-horses to discover
the wonderful world of horses and herbivores.

Farm Life Series: Root for Pigs
Explore the farm, go hog wild, and learn about pigs. Dig in the dirt,
plant seeds, grow your own garden. Create pig puppets, listen to pig
stories, and paint pig art.

Animal Art
Dress for a mess and discover the joy of painting. Hike with "VanGoat"
to the pond, then catch, draw, and release live animal models.

Farm Life Series: Incredible Cows
Do farm chores and discover facts about cows and calves. Make butter,
visit Flanders Antique Farm Museum and enjoy a tractor ride, stories,
hikes, crafts, and more.

Life Series: Food from Farms
Learn what the farm animals have to offer and their products, such
as, milk, eggs, and meat. Plant your own garden. Hike in the fields

Farm Life Series: Woolly Wonders
Explore the farm to discover facts about sheep and goats. Hands-on
activities using wool and weaving, stories, painting, puppets, and more.
